The Jemez State Monument contains the ruins of a 500-year old Indian village and the San Jose de los Jemez church, constructed as a Catholic mission in 1610. It is located in Jemez Springs, about 50 miles north of Albuquerque and 40 miles from the historic Coronado State Monument's 14th century pueblo, located in Bernalillo. A short interpretive trail passes through the ruins, and the nearby heritage center has exhibitions which describe the site's history.
